How does acupuncture work?

Your body is covered in acupuncture points (also known as acupoints) which are sensitive points which can be stimulated. By stimulating these points (which in the case of acupuncture is done via the painless insertion of very small, sterile needles) the body’s functions and natural healing process can be promoted and enhanced. The original theory behind why this works stems from Chinese Medicine. It was thought that energy flowing throughout the body could get blocked, leading to sickness and pain. Acupuncture became a way to remove these blockages and allow energy to flow freely again.

Does acupuncture hurt?

When people are new to acupuncture, they often ask “does it hurt?” The simple answer is that it does not. The needles used are so slender that you do not feel them. Furthermore, it’s all done in a relaxing - yet sterile and professional - setting, allowing for total relaxation. Indeed, after receiving treatment, patients almost always comment about how relaxed they feel.
