Whiplash injuries are serious neck injuries that arise and develop when the head is strained, forced or thrown aggressively forward or backward on impact. This results in the damage of the structures supporting the neck like the tissues, ligaments, muscles and bones.
This condition is common to victims of auto accidents. However, a whiplash injury may also happen following a physical assault, a fall, being hit by a falling object, or a sports injury. According to a study in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, at least two million individuals suffer from whiplash injuries.
