All brain injuries are divided into categories and types, based on the following differentiation:
Injury to the brain, which is hereditary, congenital, degenerative, or induced by birth trauma.
2. Acquired brain injury (ABI)
This is a type of brain injury, which is NOT hereditary, congenital, degenerative, or induced by birth trauma. It can be divided into three categories:
a) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Defined as an alteration in brain function, or other evidence of brain pathology, caused by an external force.
