Question: I have very severe shoulder arthritis. What are my options?
Answer: We are constantly in search of new treatments.
Arthritis is essentially the degeneration of the cartilage (smooth surfaces) on the ball and socket of the shoulder joint.
Someday, stem cells may be the treatment of choice for shoulder arthritis but, right now, this method is in its experimental infancy. The problem is, we can currently inject stem cells at great cost to the patient (not covered by insurance), but we do not yet have a way to reliably have these cells turn into viable cartilage that can restore the normal joint surfaces.
