If you’re reading this article, I think it is safe to assume that you’re looking for ways to lose some weight and get in better shape. Good news – you definitely came to the right place. Our Spring Hill Dietitian knows how to help you because she’s been helping patients in Hernando County improve their eating habits for years. We know change isn’t easy. That’s why we came up with these 3 very easy, very manageable little alterations you can make in your everyday diet to start seeing improvement in the way you look, and in the way you feel. Sounds good? Here are your 3 first steps on the journey to a healthier body:
Yes, water. Not coffee. I know it seems like a challenge, but don’t worry. You can still have your usual dose of caffeine later, just make sure you start with water first. Why is it important? First of all, your body didn’t have a single drop for an entire night. It’s dehydrated and longing for some H2O. There are many repercussions of dehydration. You’re tired. You have a headache. You might even feel dizzy. It’s not the best way to start a day, is it? Getting coffee as a first thing in the morning is only going to make things worse because it can dehydrate the body even further. So make sure to chug on a glass of water as soon as you wake up. This will refill the electrolytes in your system and get you ready to face the challenges of the day. A healthy body is a happy body.
According to our Spring Hill Dietitian, this can’t be emphasized enough – soda and sweet beverages is the single biggest factor in causing obesity, especially among adolescent. Did you know that a cup of your favorite color drink can have as much as 14 teaspoons of sugar? Fourteen! That is ridiculous, and yet unfortunately very true. Can you imagine putting 14 teaspoons of sugar in your coffee? No. Yet, you have no problem with consuming a can of coke. And let’s face it – when do you really stop at one can, especially on a hot summer day in Florida? Give up soda altogether. It’s the best thing you can do to lose weight. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy sweet drinks! Just make your own. There are endless possibilities. Ice water with mint, raspberries and honey. Ice green tea with lemon and ginger. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Of course, you can put sugar in all of those, if you’d like. Maybe just not 14 teaspoons ?
Eggs are one of the best types of food you can start your day with. Contrary to popular misconceptions, they are super-healthy (all that stuff about cholesterol? Yeah, you might want to check out this new study). They also have a lot of healthy fats, so they will keep you full for longer. Not to mention the delicious taste and a billion ways you can have them. Do you like your eggs scrambled? Poached? Hard-boiled? Sunny-side? Doesn’t matter! They are all good for you, so go ahead and have yourself an eggy breakie!
Anyone can make these easy changes and benefit from the results. If you like an idea of an easy and enjoyable dieting, you should see about an appointment with our Spring Hill Dietitian.
