Arthritis - Definition

Arthritis is a condition that occurs when a lack of cartilage (the soft tissue covering the ends of bones in the joint) causes joint inflammation. As a result, the patient suffers from a lot of pain and has trouble performing everyday activities due to limited mobility. The symptoms include stiffness in the joints, swelling or redness, as well as joint deformity.

The at-risk group

According to a recent study, 350 million people worldwide suffer from arthritis, among them nearly 40 million(!) Americans1. It often affects people over 50, and the common belief is that elderly people tend to be more prone to it. But age is not the only factor that puts patients at risk. The chances of developing arthritis can increase due to obesity, bad diet, or previous joint injuries. Anything that can cause inflammation in the body can cause arthritis. The good news is there are ways we can fight inflammation and prevent arthritis from occuring. In this article, we’ve gathered a couple of changes you can make to your lifestyle to ensure you become arthritis-proof.
