Put simply, a Jones fracture is a break in the lower part of the fifth metatarsal bone in the foot. This type of fracture is known as a ‘transverse’ fracture, but this specific break of the metatarsal was first identified by Sir Robert Jones in 1902 and was subsequently given his name.
