Lung cancer is cancer that begins in the lungs. Cancer is a disease where cells in the body start to grow out of control.
There are two types of lung cancer: small cell and non-small cell. Non-small cell lung cancer is more common and usually grows at a slower rate. There are often few or no symptoms until it is advanced.
Of course, the most significant risk factor for lung cancer is smoking, but you can develop lung cancer even if you do not smoke. Understand that smoking is linked to approximately 80%-90% of lung cancer deaths. Your best option to reduce risk is to quit and do so as early in life as possible.
