Latest update from our client, Raleigh Orthopaedic Surgery Center about 3 Different Types of Anesthesia During Orthopedic Surgery:

Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical techniques to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

During orthopedic surgery, anesthesia is used in order to numb the area or even make the patient unconscious. Anesthesia is administered before and during your surgical procedure so you do not feel pain. Some anesthetics induce sleep, while others cause drowsiness and/or numbness. There are three main types of anesthesia that can be given to you before and/or during outpatient orthopedic surgery in a surgery center in NC:

  • Local Anesthesia – numbs one small area of the body. You stay awake and alert.
  • Regional Anesthesia – blocks pain in an area of the body, such an arm or leg.
  • General Anesthesia – makes you unconscious.
