Check out our client, Hands on Therapy latest blog post about 5 Daily Habits That Reduce Stiffness

I wanted to answer a common question I get asked about being stiff which we get asked regularly by clients at Hands-on Therapy Services.

“Hoang, do you have any advice for someone like me who isn’t in a lot of pain? I’m just incredibly stiff when I wake up on a morning, and I feel it through the day. Though once I “warm up” it’s better. But I’m noticing I’m feeling stiffer and stiffer. Any advice?”

I’ve got plenty of tips and advice to help reduce stiffness. But first I want to clear up ‘why’ we feel stiff in the first place.

Latest update from our client, Hands on Therapy about How Making One Change Can Help You Sleep Through The Night

If you struggle to sleep through the night, keep reading. This one change could actually help you sleep through the night.

I have a friend and client (let’s call her Jessica) who for the past several months would tell me how she has poor sleeping pattern. Meaning, she just can’t sleep through the night. She relates it to stress. Too much on her mind.

She has come to the clinic in the past for hand pain, elbow pain, even back pain. Yet, when it came to helping her with her sleeping, she didn’t think that therapy would or could actually help.

I only tell that part, because I know that most people often think of coming to occupational therapy or physical therapy when they have a great deal of pain or surgery.

If I may challenge you though. You don’t have to wait to be in pain to get our help.

We have an extra set of eyes that can see what you can’t see. We also have strategies based on what you tell us your difficulties are and knowledge base to help you specifically to help improve how you live.

Jessica was getting increasingly frustrated that even with a new bed, dark curtains, and exercise – that she was still struggling to sleep through the night.

Movement and mobility are important in everyday life. Joints play a pivotal role in maintaining a person’s balance and range of motion. Like any other part of the body, the joints may suffer from the “wear and tear” of everyday use.

One of the most common areas prone to joint pain is the fingers. They are used in almost everything that you do – from cooking, painting, writing, and typing, among others.

If you develop finger arthritis, you may need to see a hand therapist in Miami, but first, here are some facts about the condition and ways to alleviate the pain.

Latest update from our client, Hands on Therapy Best Time To Get Help With Neck Pain

Ever wake up with a “kink” in your neck?  That neck pain can be seriously sharp.  And when it first happens, you don’t even want to turn into that direction.

What causes that? Most people don’t think they did anything! And that maybe it was just a bad way of sleeping for the night. I’ve been there and done that many times.  It’s easy to blame the pillow or just being so exhausted that you didn’t move all night. That’s definitely a possibility.

What’s also a possibility is that you did something earlier in the day or it is a cumulation of things you have done over a series of weeks or months, and now after sleeping with that sagging pillow, you woke up with a kink in your neck. Makes it hard to turn when driving or hard to look when someone calls your name.

Latest update from our client, Hands on Therapy about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Hand Problems Making It Hard For You To Open Containers By Yourself?

Hand pain and numbness driving you crazy because you always have to find someone else to open things for you? Not only does carpal tunnel syndrome wake you up at night, but it also makes your hands feel tired and “old”. It makes it hard for you to open bottles or containers by yourself. Amongst a host of other things that we can use our hands for.

“This is just what happens when you get old”. NOT TRUE!

I want to encourage you NOT to make that assumption. Aging is a fact of life. No one can get around it. But pain and numbness of your hands does not have to come with age and should not be a symptom of aging!

It is one of the main assumptions that I hear people tend to make which leaves us stuck having to suffer from indecision longer than necessary.
